This will include how well the enterprise?s insurance coverage matches the company?s actual needs and operation throughout the remainder of the year.
For most companies this is an annual process, where risk treatment occurs during the first quarter of the year, and risk analysis begins in the last quarter of that year. As new types of coverage are offered, the company can then take advantage of them and incorporate them into their current strategy. It is in this manner that risk management and business insurance go hand-in-hand.

It was no surprise that the Oscars wanted to go back to the past in 2012. After all, the show's producers brought Billy Crystal back to host for a ninth time. But it appears that those producers also wanted to travel back to the 1980s for a music flashback, hiring legendary drummer Sheila E. for the Oscars house band.
Yes, the same Sheila E. who rocked the charts in 1984 with her funky single "The Glamorous Life" and taught children of the '80s that the coolest way to play a drum kit was standing up.
Sheila E.'s hit came after years of performing with Prince. He had met E. (real name: Sheila Escovedo) in the late '70s after performing with her father, percussionist Pete Escovedo. Years later, he would invite E. to take part in the Purple Rain recording sessions. She would also perform vocals on "Erotic City," the B-side to Rain's first single, "Let's Go Crazy."
Later in 1984, E. broke off on her own to record "Glamorous Life," which would shoot all the way to #7 on Billboard's Hot 100. She followed "Life" up with another chart hit, "A Love Bizarre," in 1985.
E. wouldn't remain away from Prince for long, returning to join his band the New Power Generation and performing on his late '80s albums Sign 'O' the Times and Lovesexy.
Her appearance at the 2012 Academy Awards may seem a far jump from these milestones of funk pop, but E. has proved versatile over the years, with appearances ranging from jazz festivals to the NAACP Image Awards to a performance on the "American Idol" season 10 finale. She has also jumped into the reality judging ring, lending her voice to the panel on the 2007 season of "Australian Idol."
Sheila E. was not the only musician with connections to the '80s in the Oscars band on Sunday night. Alongside her was film composer Hans Zimmer, who collaborated on the music for the Oscars ceremony with super producer Pharrell Williams. Zimmer provided the score to 1989 Best Picture "Rain Man" and had a connection the music-video decade that goes back further than Sheila E's. He worked with the new wave band the Buggles, reportedly appearing in the video for "Video Killed the Radio Star," was the first clip ever shown on MTV.

But under the new rule, states are required to establish quarterly, automatic, computerized analyses of all bank accounts to determine whether any child support debtors have assets. When an account is matched, a garnishment order is automatically issued, and the account seized. Cisco challenges Microsoft takeover of Skype in EU
BRUSSELS (AP) ? Networking company Cisco said Wednesday that it is challenging Microsoft's $8.5 billion takeover of Skype at the European Union's top court to ensure Microsoft won't block other video conferencing services.
Microsoft completed the deal in October shortly after the European Commission, the EU's competition regulator, cleared the takeover. Microsoft Corp. hopes that owning Skype will allow it to better compete with other tech giants including Apple Inc. or Google Inc.
But for Cisco Systems Inc., the world's largest maker of computer networking equipment, the Skype deal creates a serious challenger to its video conferencing systems.
"Cisco does not oppose the merger, but believes the European Commission should have placed conditions that would ensure greater standards-based interoperability," Marthin De Beer, the head of Cisco's video conferencing division, wrote in a blog post.
Video conferencing equipment is a relatively small part of Cisco's overall sales, but it's growing rapidly. Cisco's latest major acquisition was of Tandberg, a Norwegian maker of video conferencing equipment. Cisco spent $3.4 billion for the company in 2010.
Microsoft said it was confident it would prevail in an appeal.
"The European Commission conducted a thorough investigation of the acquisition, in which Cisco actively participated, and approved the deal in a 36-page decision without any conditions," Microsoft said in a statement.
Microsoft is counting on Skype to help it catch up in some the hottest markets in technology and media. Microsoft is looking to grow in areas such as online socializing, mobile phones and digital video to reduce its traditional reliance on its Windows and Office software for revenue.
The U.S. Department of Justice approved the deal in June. Its approvals can't be appealed, while the European Commission does accept appeals.
Cisco wants the General Court of the EU to check whether the Commission was right in clearing the Skype takeover without any conditions. It argues that the Commission should have required Microsoft to guarantee open standards for video conferencing, similar to what exists for mobile phone calls.
Such standards would eventually allow users of Cisco video phones to make calls to users of Skype and other services like Google Voice.
De Beer said that without these standards, Microsoft could "seek to control the future of video communications."
"Making a video-to-video call should be as easy as dialing a phone number," De Beer wrote. "Today, however, you can't make seamless video calls from one platform to another, much to the frustration of consumers and business users alike."
But Cisco fears that Microsoft will end up blocking Skype for users of other services, especially if it starts charging businesses for teleconferencing. Its filing came just ahead of a deadline for appeals.
Skype, with roughly 170 million users, is by far the most popular voice-over-Internet service.
Antoine Colombani, a spokesman for the European Commission, said it will defend its decision in court.
Cisco's stock fell 19 cents to $19.88 in afternoon trading Wednesday, while Microsoft's fell 17 cents to $30.08.

The cause of the condition may lie in the brain or in the facial nerves, according to the report. Both the production of tears and the passing of urine are under the control of a brain region called the pons.
The report is published online in the journal Pediatrics.
An unusual case
The 3-year-old girl was brought to doctors in November 2009, because of "watering of her eyes every time she passed urine," according to the report. When it happened, her jaw would drop and her expression would become vacant, although she remained conscious and was not in any pain, wrote the researchers from University College London Hospital, and Conquest Hospital in Hastings.
The problem began when the girl was just weeks old. An ultrasound of her kidneys revealed nothing abnormal, and there were no signs dry eyes or of any other medical problem.
The researchers searched the medical literature, and found only one other formal report of a similar case, from 1932. In that case, a young man who was a medical student reported a "copious flow of dears during defecation and urination."
The man kept track of his symptoms for 94 days, according to that report by a researcher at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, and the problem was fixed by a dose of atropine, a drug that lowers the activity of certain nerves, and can also be used to dilate the pupils of the eyes. ?
Looking for more information, the researchers in England turned to health websites, and found more cases. A search of online discussion groups revealed 35 people who described having the problem of tear production during painless urination. Slightly more than half were female, and three described having a close relative with similar symptoms.
None of the people had sought medical advice, saying that the tears, while inconvenient and embarrassing, weren't a significant medical problem, according to the report.
A clue from crocodile tears?
In their search for an explanation, the researchers looked at what happens when someone cries "crocodile tears." Though the term has more recently been applied to insincere or fake crying, the original description of crocodile tear syndrome was based on people who would cry while eating or drinking, due to either a facial injury or a condition called Bell's palsy.
In those cases, nerves that regrow after an injury or disease may be misdirected toward the lacrimal gland, which produces tears, according to the report. There are also cases of crocodile tear syndrome occurring from birth, and these cases may be due to the nerves crossing over during embryonic development, the researchers wrote.
If such an abnormal nerve connection could cause a person to have produce tears while eating or drinking, a similar process could cause a person to produce tears when they urinate, according to the report.
However, this would not explain the little girl's vacant expression, or her jaw dropping when the crying happens, according to the report. For now, those symptoms remain a mystery. ??

WASHINGTON (AP) ? If scientists find microbes in a frigid lake two miles beneath the thick ice of Antarctica, it will illustrate once again that somehow life finds a way to survive in the strangest and harshest places.
And it will offer hope that life exists beyond Earth.
Russian researchers reported Wednesday that they had reached Lake Vostok, a pristine body of water untouched by light or wind for about 20 million years. They want to know what type of microbial life ? bacteria too small to see ? might exist there.
Finding microbes may not sound like much. But they were the first form of Earth life eons before plants and animals existed.
If scientists find these tiny germs in Lake Vostok, it bolsters already strong hope that elsewhere in our solar system, life also might exist where once it didn't seem possible.
There are plenty of examples of life forms existing in the most improbable of places:
?A tiny shrimp was captured on a NASA video floating under thick ice sheets in a different part of Antarctica.

"Everything I've learned shows just how phenomenally amazing life is, certainly its ability to adapt," said Carl Pilcher, who heads NASA's Astrobiology Institute, which studies strange life here and the prospects for it elsewhere.
In fact, scientists are hard-pressed to say where they haven't found life.
"The more we learn about life, the more we learn about its ability to grow and survive and prosper in environments that we formerly thought were too inhospitable," said David Morrison, a senior scientist at NASA's Astrobiology Institute.
University of Colorado scientist Ted Scambos is sure there will be microbes found in Lake Vostok when the long process of examining samples starts ? something that may be months away because of logistical problems. He said ice many feet above the lake had bacteria, so it makes sense that the lake does.
Still, what makes Lake Vostok more important than other extreme environments is its incredible isolation.
For example, in Atacama, life probably blew in from elsewhere, NASA astrobiologist Chris McKay said. But Lake Vostok microbes, if found, could not have blown in.
More than 10 million years ago there was little or no ice there, so life could easily have existed then. But with no heat or sunlight after the ice set in, life there now would have had to find another way of getting energy, said molecular chemist and astrobiologist Steve Benner. And that's key.
If life finds a way to adapt to strange conditions in this awful place, why couldn't it live on Jupiter's moon Europa or Saturn's moon Enceladus, scientists ask. Both bodies have water trapped under crusts of ice, just like Lake Vostok, and are both prime targets in the search for life beyond Earth. The big disagreement among scientists is not about the potential for life on those two moons, but which one has the most potential and should be explored first.
It also means Mars could harbor life deep underground, McKay said.
"The broadest lesson that I think we can derive is that given liquid water, life can negotiate just about everything else," McKay said.
So far, except for the surprise shrimp that stunned a NASA Antarctic researcher and the odd tubeworms alongside ocean vents, most of the life forms are so small we can't see them. They are single-cell microbes or a tad more complex.
But that's a big deal because microbes evolve. For 90 percent of the time that life existed on Earth, there were only microbes, said Bruce Jakosky, a professor of geological sciences at the University of Colorado. Microbes are "where we come from," he said.
Jakosky and McKay said it also could eventually mean that life started in more than one place in the universe.
"If there's microbial life widespread throughout the galaxy, that increases the chances that there's intelligent life elsewhere," Jakosky said.

Sony abandons PlayStation Vita UMD Passport plan in North America (Digital Trends)

Sony rolled out this program in Japan at launch during December 2011 and all?Japanese owners can register their UMD titles on the Vita by paying a fee based on the value of the game, thus Japanese owners can avoid having to repurchase the titles at full cost on the PlayStation Vita digital download store. New PlayStation Vita owners in North America on?February 22?will have to keep the PSP in order to access old titles or repurchase older games at full price to utilize the software on the newer handheld system.?
By announcing this decision two weeks prior to the launch of the PlayStation Vita, Sony fans that held onto old PSP games in hopes that the titles could be?transferred?to a new PlayStation Vita will get significantly less money or trade-in value for the titles than six months ago. However, PSP owners would have still had to pay an average of $13 per title for each game they already owned according to The Escapist, an expensive solution for anyone that wanted to enjoy classic titles. Since over half of the PSP library is only available on UMD disc, new Vita owners may find the Sony Entertainment Network store lacking for PSP content.?
While North American UMD?collectors?are out of luck, people that own digital PSP titles will be able to re-download the games on the PlayStation Vita. However, owners of the Vita may likely gravitate to newer titles over classic PSP games due to the higher resolution output of the portable device. It?s also possible that Sony was hesitant to launch the?UMD Passport plan within North America due to the poor performance of digital content on the PSP Go, but Sony has had good luck selling digital content through the PlayStation 3. No announcement has been made on the availability of the?UMD Passport program for the European launch also on?February 22.?
The PlayStation Vita received a significant update in Japan recently that now allows the device to shoot?MP4 video?at 640?480 resolution with 128Kbps AAC?audio support. While this level of resolution is lacking compared to nearly all digital cameras and most smartphones, the upgrade puts Vita in line with the?640?480 pixel resolution of the Nintendo 3DS camera. Sony also rolled out a Map Mode for Japanese owners that allows them to look up?phone numbers and addresses similar to Google Maps on a smartphone. From Map mode, owners can send their location to friends through a text message.
In addition, the LED lighting on the Vita specifies the power state. For instance, flashing blue is for standby mode, flashing orange indicated that the battery is nearly out of power, a solid blue light means the Vita is plugged in and powered up and a solid orange light displays when the unit is charging while powered down.
The update also included a method for Vita owners to put the unit into safe mode without turning the Vita on. By holding down the power button for a while, the unit moves into safe mode and allows the Vita owner to take advantage of Sony?s geocaching app called Near. Similar to Nintendo?s StreetPass, Near shares information between two Vita owners that pass each other in the street. ?Sony has made no announcement if the recent update sent out to all PlayStation Vitas purchased within Japan will also arrive with the launch of the Vita within North American and Europe.
